The Fashion Swap: An Innovative Company Idea for College Students

 

The Fashion Swap is a company idea that I came up with in Spring of 2020 during my “Corporate Publishing” class. Essentially, The Fashion Swap is a student-run, fashion-based service. The service is an online fashion community that helps bring together fashion-lovers at Elon University in an affordable, eco-friendly way. This company vision is something that I could see myself using and believe would be popular in college communities.

Within this campaign, I created a logo, business card, magazine advertisement, and a mockup website.

Creative Brief

  • The Fashion Swap is a student-run, fashion-based service. The service is an online fashion community that helps bring together fashion-lovers at Elon University in an affordable, eco-friendly way.

  • We are advertising the introduction of a new fashion community (brand) on campus. We think that the idea of trading clothing is unique and the central aspect of the brand, making this the focal point of our advertising. There needs to be a certain level of reliability and security when talking about trading clothes, so this is a critical tone in the advertising.

  • Our target audience is those students at Elon who feel a lack of opportunities for people interested in fashion. After interviewing some Elon students, we found that the people who felt that style was essential to them and that opportunities in this discipline were lacking on campus were more likely to be interested in The Fashion Swap service. We also noticed that students were interested in keeping up with the trends but had a financial burden as college students were more open to the idea of trading clothes and thought this was different and innovative compared to selling. Our target audience would also most likely be females, as the few male students we asked didn’t have as much interest in the service as female students. However, this doesn’t mean that the service wouldn’t be open to everyone.

    The primary identifiers needed from our target audience would be an interest in fashion, a want for a fashion community, the willingness to trade clothes, and an opinion that fashion is essential.

  • The Fashion Swap will solve the problem of expensive shopping spurs for a singular event. We want members to feel that The Fashion Swap is where they can fill the need for the lack of fashion services on campus. Using The Fashion Swap allows students to focus on their love for fashion within a community.

  • The Fashion Swap is a unique fashion service available to all students at Elon University. With a lack of services for the fashion-lovers on campus, The Fashion Swap brings an exceptional service that allows fellow students to trade, rent, or sell clothes to and with each other so you can stay trendy in eco-friendly and cost-affordable clothing.

    We also recognize that fashion tends to hold a stigma as it is a very judgemental business. However, The Fashion Swap would avert this problem with a student audience base with relatable financial issues.

  • The talk value is the concept of a fashion community on a campus that doesn’t have many opportunities for fashion lovers.

  • We want the tone of the advertisement to be edgy and minimalistic. We don’t want it to feel mainstream, and it needs to be something that may be more current with the fashion trends. We also wish trustworthiness to be the tone carried throughout.
